PYRE PARADES

Developed over the course of a decade, The Pyre Parade was an annual public ritual that purged bad news through fire. Members of the public were invited to take a private moment to write down bad news and place it inside wooden boxes. Together, in large numbers, this was then carried through Ipswich before engulfing it in flames - burning bad news to clear space for winter. Pyre Parades were free and open to all, with thousands of people taking part.
